After the Frost: Time to Start Digging up the Dahlia Tubers

This past weekend, we had our first frost, so I started to dig up the dahlia tubers for winter storage. I finished the tubers on Goldberry Hill and the Front Border (pictured), but still need to get the ones in the Cutting and Rose Gardens. For a full how-to, read my prior post, “How to Store Dahlia Tubers for Winter.”

  1. I love Dahlias, but lost mine last year when I had a hospital stay and didn't get them pulled before the freeze. (No one else was willing to pull them either – darn!)

Those lovely flowers are the most prolific bloomers! I hope to get some more next spring.

  2. Thank goodness I don't have to dig up bulbs for the Winter. One of the joys of living in the South. If I had tp dig up bulbs…I would never plant them. Hard enough keeping up with the garden as it is! So I pat you on the back!
